Exposição Internacional de Postais em Nova Iorque / International Postcard Show in New York

Realiza-se, no Hotel New Yorker, em Nova Iorque, entre os dias 12 e 14 de Novembro, um salão internacional de postais ilustrados, organizado pelo Metropolitan Postcard Club da cidade. Mais de dois milhões de postais vão estar em exibição e à venda, categorizados por tema e localização. Durante esta 'feira' estará ainda em exibição uma exposição temática alusiva aos postais que ilustram os 'New York's Hometown Heroes'. O clube promotor do evento foi criado em 1946 e é a mais antiga associação com actividade contínua sobre postais ilustrados nos EUA.

An International Postcard Show will be held at Hotel New Yorker, in New York, between November 12th and 14th. The event is organized by the Metropolitan Postcard Club of New York City. More than 2 millions of postcards will be exhibited and available for sale, categorized by subject and location. During this show there will be a thematic exhibition on postcards depicting the 'New York's Hometown Heroes'. The promotor club of this event was created in 1946 and it is the oldest continuously-run postcard club in USA.

Postais e Política / Postcards and Politics

Tendo sido muito expressivos no início do século XX, os postais ilustrados tiveram um papel particularmente relevante no processo de implementação da República em Portugal. São conhecidos inúmeros exemplares reproduzindo imagens alusivas à agitação política da época. Uma selecção destes postais foi recentemente editada num livro intitulado Os postais da primeira República. A obra, da autoria de António Ventura, vai ser lançada no dia 15 de Outubro no quadro da palestra 'O Bilhete-Postal Ilustrado e a Política'. Promovida no quadro das comemorações do Centenário da República, esta iniciativa realiza-se no Museu da Tapeçaria de Portalegre.

Picture postcards were very expressive in the begining of the 20th century and played a particularly relevant role in the process of the implementation of the Republic in Portugal. Many copies reproducing images allusive to the political agitation of that period are known. A sellection of these postcards was recently edited in a book entitled Os postais da primeira República [Postcards from the first Republic]. The book, organized by Antonio Ventura, will be presented at 15th October during a conference on Picture Postcard and Politics. Promoted in the scope of the celebration of the Republic Centenary, this initiative will take place at Museu da Tapeçaria in Portalegre.

Postsecret com endereço português - Postsecret with Portuguese address

Quem quiser enviar anonimamente os seus segredos, já tem, desde a passada terça-feira, uma morada portuguesa para o fazer: Apartado 52 Cova da Piedade 2806-801 Almada Portugal. O PostSecret, projecto de arte contemporânea criado por Frank Warren em 2004 e referido aqui, que consiste na recepção de postais criados e enviados por anónimos que confessam publicamente os seus segredos, ganhou uma versão lusitana. Além da morada geográfica que já não é a do Frank Warren, há um blogue destinado às confidências ilustradas em língua portuguesa, um novo endereço electrónico e uma página Facebook.

Anyone who wants to send his secrets anonymously, has, since last Tuesday, a Portuguese address in order to do it: Apartado 52 Cova da Piedade 2806-801 Almada Portugal. The PostSecret, a contemporary art project created by Frank Warren in 2004 and mentioned here, which consists in the reception of postcards created and sent by anonymous people who confess publicly their secrets, has now a Portuguese version. Besides the geographic address, which is not Frank Warren's anymore, there's a blog for the top secret and illustrated messages in Portuguese Language, a new e-mail and a Facebook page.

It is possible that we have from picture postcards an idea of centralization of interests in only the principal cities of a country. There is however some copies of postcards from less probable villages (although its similar touristic interest) like Vidago. It is, in truth, taking Vidago picture postcards as a pretext that some notes on the history and daily life of one of these aparently less visible villages are published in the blog 'Meu Vidago'. A descrição dada a Les Évadés du Musée, última história para enviar publicada este ano pelas edições Zinc, é clara: "um destinatário, sete postais, sete capítulos". Ou seja: dentro de uma bolsa de cartão, há sete postais ilustrados, cujas imagens são alusivas aos respectivos capítulos da história; estes estão inscritos no verso dos postais, no qual há apenas espaço livre para a morada do destinatário e para uma eventual assinatura do remetente. A criação editorial desta chancela francesa, que mistura o formato epistolar com o género policial e roman noir, não data, no entanto, deste ano e Les Évadés du Musée é um dos quatro contos postais já publicados desde 2004 (a colecção Polars Postaux pode ser consultada na íntegra aqui). O sucesso destes thrillers "com entrega ao domícilio", entre os quais já há dois títulos esgotados, muito se deve à função de prenda tão frequentemente associada ao postal. Ir recebendo uma história ao ritmo contingente do remetente e da circulação postal fará, sem dúvida, o destinatário reconhecer a surpresa, a vivacidade, e o diálogo que são próprios à prenda.

The description given to Les Évadés du Musée, the last postal story published this year by Zinc Publisher is quite meaningful: "one receiver, seven postcards, seven chapters". That is: inside a card bag there are seven picture postcards, whose images illustrate each chapter of the novel, which is inscribed in the back of the postcard. There's only some space for the receiver's address and, eventually, for the sender's signature. The creation of this French publisher, which mixes an epistolary format with the crime fiction and the roman noir, is not new: Les Évadés du Musée is one of the four postal novels already published since 2004 (the collection Polars Postaux is completely presented here). The success of these "home delivered" thrillers (some titles are already out of stock), is due to the function of gift so often associated with postcards. Receiving a story with the contingent rhythm of the sender and of the mail circulation must make the receiver recognize the surprise, the vivacity and the dialogue, that often define a gift.

Postais de Maputo (Luis Abélard)

Luís Abélard, consagrado fotógrafo Moçambicano que se recusava a "fotografar pobreza e miséria", um Amigo que tive ainda a sorte de fazer, enviava regularmente através da rede da "Net" aos amigos aquilo que chamava "Postais de Maputo". Neste "postal ilustrado", em auto-retrato, aparece junto a uma sua panorâmica da cidade cuja fotografia está à entrada do aeoroporto de Mavalane. Eis-nos uma vez mais perante o conceito de postal a mobilizar o fotógrafo, a cidade e os afectos.
No dia 23 de Setembro, em princípio, será lançado o seu último álbum de fotografias. Um Livro que aborda o trabalho e a vida de alguns dos mais reconhecidos artistas plásticos Moçambicanos da actualidade.

Luís Abélard is a famous Mozambican photographer who refused to "shoot poverty and misery," a friend who still had the luck to do, regularly sent to friends via internet, what he called "Postcards from Maputo". In this "postcard" in self-portrait appears alongside a picture of the city whose photograph is on the doorstep of the Mavalane airport. Once again we have an example in the concept of postcard mobilize the photographer, the city and friendship.
On September 23, probably, will launch his latest album. A book that discusses the work and lives of some of the most famous Mozambican artists of today.
