A arte da publicidade no Museu Berardo The art of advertising in Berardo Museum

Tal como os cartazes, os postais ilustrados foram célebres veículos de propaganda durante as duas guerras. Um século depois da sua idade de ouro, eles ainda são conhecidos instrumentos de publicidade: desta vez, estão ao serviço do Museu Berardo, em Lisboa, que pôs ao dispor dos visitantes da exposição A Arte da Guerra postais selados e um marco do correio para que se partilhe com os mais próximos um postal anunciando a mostra de cartazes propagandísticos da II Guerra Mundial. A exposição estará aberta até 8 de Fevereiro.

Picture postcards were, like posters, popular propaganda media during the two wars. One century after their golden age, they're still a well-known advertising tool: this time, they are used by Berardo Museum, in Lisbon, which offers to the visitors of the exhibition The art of war stamped postcards and a mail box in order to share with friends and relatives postcards announcing the show of the 2^nd War propaganda posters. The exhibition will remain open until the 8^th February.

Portugal ilustrado em Postais / Portugal pictured in postcards

O Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade da Universidade do Minho acaba de lançar um conjunto de seis brochuras que dão a conhecer parte de ‘Portugal ilustrado em Postais’. A obra está reunida numa caixa de arquivo e resulta de um projecto de investigação financiado pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. Com o objectivo de reflectir sobre a cultura visual contemporânea a partir do postal ilustrado, este projecto procurou analisar o contributo do cartão postal para a história dos media modernos.

Meios de correspondência de registo breve, económicos, ligeiros, graciosos, os postais ilustrados constituíram um dos mais significativos suportes de circulação de imagens. Fixaram (ou fixam ainda) retratos de cidades, de gentes, de monumentos e de objectos de arte, estando intimamente ligados à definição do imaginário popular.

Nesta colectânea, os investigadores analisam a imagem construída e divulgada pelos postais ilustrados ao longo dos anos relativamente a cinco cidades portuguesas – Bragança, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Viseu e Portalegre. Os booklets reunidos nesta obra são, na verdade, apontamentos sumários da imagem destas cidades ao espelho dos postais, num formato que repete, de algum modo, o jeito dos próprios bilhetes-postais: são brochuras breves, regionalizadas, ilustradas, coloridas, que mantêm o perfil ágil e afectuoso do objecto coleccionável.

The Communication and Society Research Centre, University of Minho, has just published a set of six booklets that shows part of 'Portugal pictured in Postcards'. The work is brought together in a box and is the result of a research project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology. In order to reflect on contemporary visual culture from the postcard perspective, the project sought to analyze the contribution of the postcard to the history of modern media.

Means of correspondence in brief register, economic, light, graceful, the picture postcards were one of the most significant supports for image circulation. They fixed (or are still fixing) portraits of cities, people, monuments and works of art, being intimately linked to the development of the popular imaginary.

In this collection, researchers analyze the image constructed and disseminated by many postcards over the years for five Portuguese cities - Bragança, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Viseu and Portalegre. The booklets are, in fact, the summary notes of the image these cities mirrow in postcards, in a format that repeats in some sense the own way of postcards: they are brief booklets, regionalized, illustrated, colored, having the profile of the affective collectable object.

Porto em bilhetes postais / Porto in picture postcards

Está em exibição, desde o dia 05, no Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão, no Porto, uma exposição sobre imagens da cidade em bilhetes postais. Da Praça de Carlos Alberto à Cordoaria, esta exposição - que estará patente até 31 de Janeiro - mostra lugares emblemáticos do Porto, como a Praça dos Leões ou o Carmo nos tons sépia que bem caracterizam a época de ouro dos postais ilustrados.

It is now showing, since December 5, in Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão in Porto, an exhibition of images of the city on postcards. From Carlos Alberto's Square to Cordoaria, this exhibition - which will be open until January 31 - shows the emblematic places of Porto, as Praça dos Leões or Carmo in sepia tones, very typical of the picture postcards' golden age.

Foz do Arelho em postais / Foz do Arelho in picture postcards

É inaugurada hoje, na Figueira da Foz, uma exposição de postais ilustrados. Intitulada 'A Foz do Arelho desde há 100 anos', a primeira mostra de bilhetes-postais na região exibe, no Posto de Turismo (escola Francisco Almeida Grandela) cartões de colecções privadas (de Fernando Horta, Diamantino Fernandes e Miguel Chaby). A exposição, que assinala o segundo aniversário da elevação da Foz do Arelho a Vila, vai estar patente até ao dia 31 de Agosto.

It will be opened today in Figueira da Foz an exhibition of picture postcards. Entitled "Foz do Arelho for over 100 years', the first show of postcards in the region exhibits at the Tourist Office (school Grandela Francisco Almeida) cards from private collections (from Fernando Horta, Miguel Fernandes and Diamond Chaby). The exhibition, marking the second anniversary of the designation of Foz Arelho as Village, will be open until August 31.
